Are we buying or selling?

I saw a job posting today for a Full Stack Developer.

Those kinds of jobs aren’t easy to fill, are they?

Anyway…

This particular job posting was 368 words long and broken down into the following subheadings:

The Role: This is where they told a Full Stack Developer what a Full Stack Developer typically does every day.

The Ideal Candidate: This was a list of every piece of tech they might need to know, plus a few soft skills that suggested that if they got the job, they’d never need to be managed, trained or spoken to. You know, things like “must be self-motivated” and “can work independently”.

Beneficial Skills: This was another list of demands they’d forgotten to put in the ‘Ideal Candidate’ section. They could have called this subheading ‘The Super Awesome Ideal Candidate’.

Then, right at the bottom was a sentence saying “click apply if you want to work for a company that helps their staff grow personally and professionally”.

So, here’s my question…

HOW THE HELL DIDN’T THE AGENCY THINK THAT THE “PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH” THING WAS THE MOST ATTRACTIVE PART AND PUT THAT AT THE TOP, RATHER THAN RIGHT AT THE END WHERE MOST READERS WOULDN’T HAVE REACHED ANYWAY BECAUSE THE PREVIOUS 350 WORDS WERE BORING AND LOOKED LIKE EVERY OTHER JOB POSTING ON THE INTERNET?!

It could have been particularly effective if they’d told the readers how the company encourage this personal and professional growth. Maybe even given an example of an employee where this actually happened?

Or maybe I’ve got it wrong? 

Maybe there are huge numbers of unemployed Full Stack Developers out there who are desperate for work?
