What’s the secret to writing great job ads?

Do you mention the boring bits in the job ad?

This is a snippet of a webinar where Mitch Sullivan answers questions about copywriting for recruiters.

Here’s what he was asked:

JB: Every job’s got boring bits. Every job’s got bits that people don’t like. And I think it’s fair enough, to be open, honest and transparent about those boring bits.

You might not put that in the headline. You might just have a paragraph further down the ad that says: “Not every day is going to be shiny and sparkling. Some days you’ve got o do the filing”.

Let’s face it, that’s the reality of the workplace.

It is OK to mention the bad things about a job, as well as the good. But it might not be your main selling point.

Mitch’s response?

It can be a technique that can help you. But in a tight candidate market, I would be nervous about leading an ad with something like that.

So what should you do? That’s the kind of thing you learn on our Copywriting for Recruiters courses.
