How to write the perfect recruitment ad?
I’ve just been reading an article that explains how to write the “perfect recruitment ad”.
Gotta love that “perfect” thing, eh?
A few paragraphs in, the author does admit there’s no such thing as a perfect recruitment ad, which I think was just his way of admitting he’s a clickbaiter.
So for the purposes of this post, let’s refer to him as Master ClickBaiter.
The part of his article I’d like to draw your attention to is this…
“The first thing that job seekers should see when they open your recruitment ad is a compelling paragraph about the company”
This seems to be a popular misconception amongst people with no recruitment experience and who like to write articles about producing the perfect job ad. They’re basically saying that it’s the company’s opinion of itself the target candidate is most interested in.
This is not true.
What the majority of people are interested in knowing first is why the job might be better than either the one they’re doing, or the others they’re applying for.
Once that question has been answered, only then does who and what the company is become important. But only once the ‘what’s in it for me’ stuff has been dealt with.
I’m surprised that with all his marketing experience, Master ClickBaiter didn’t know this.
Reading the opening few paragraphs of a job ad that are all about the hiring company is like going on a first date and spending the first 10 minutes listening to the other person telling you how hot they think they are.
Here’s a little more context on why Master ClickBaiter is talking out of his hole…
