You’ll learn how to get the quality of information you need to be able to write a quality job advert, or a series of emails and InMails.
It all starts with the conversation you have with the hiring manager.
Topics covered include:
What constitutes a proper job brief.
What information you’ll need.
What questions to ask to get that information.
How to use this information in your job marketing.
It will also help you become better at managing your clients (be they internal or external) and better equipped to assess the right candidates.
It will all be done through animated videos, text, downloads, images, quizzes, exercises, and some self-assessment. This is a stand-alone mini course that supports the main Copywriting for Recruiters course, but neither course is a prerequisite for the other.
You’ll also get a high-value (and free) download called ‘The Copy Platform’.
This is an updated version of a critically important job briefing document I used for many years when I was a full time recruiter. It’s in Word format so you can customise it to your own needs.

FAQs
What’s a Job Brief?
It is all of the information you need to be able to fill a job vacancy. It can go by other names such as; Job Consultation, Intake Meeting or Job Profiling.
Why is it important?
Without good quality information (from the hiring manager) you won’t be properly equipped to attract and assess the right candidates.
Is it a prerequisite to do this course as part of the copywriting training?
No. Both are standalone courses in their own right, but taking a good job brief will make writing job adverts, emails and InMails much easier.
How long does this course last?
Around 1 hour, although it could take longer depending on your previous recruitment experience and whether you click (and read) all of the external links. You’ll have access for 30 days, so you can revisit any parts as often as you want.
Will it help me persuade hiring managers that I need more than just a job description?
Yes. In my experience, hiring managers just need to understand that most of the candidates they’re looking for aren’t going to be desperate for another job.
Can I contact the tutor?
This is designed to be a self-contained online course. However, if you have any questions or need any help, please email mitch@copywritingforrecruiters.com
How do I pay?
You can pay in your own currency using PayPal or your credit/debit card. The fee includes VAT or whatever sales tax applies in your country.
If you work through the entire course and you’re not satisfied, please let us know within 30 days of signing up. Email Mitch at mitch@copywritingforrecruiters.com and we’ll see what we can do for you.
What technology do I need?
All you need is a computer, tablet or smartphone and high-speed internet access.
After 2 decades in the recruitment profession, it is always lovely to be surprised by or reminded of what makes a great job briefing session. Do yourself a favour & sign up. Hiring success starts or fails at the job brief.
I'd like to think I'm already pretty good at taking the brief, but this user-friendly course was really helpful in giving me more structure and rationale. The questions Mitch suggests you use during the briefing are the real nuggets in this.
I've made a good career by taking strong briefs and writing attention-grabbing content; over 50% of my placements now come from this route. If I'd taken this course alongside the copywriting one, I'd have cracked the code more quickly.
This Taking the Job Brief course reinforced a lot of the basics, which I might sometimes miss out or that didn't enter my conscious process the 1st or even the 2nd time I learned them.I now know a few more ways to get the answers I knew I wanted but couldn't always uncover, as well as a few more tricks to get those hiring managers to understand why it's important I get this information.
The Taking the Job Brief course helped me refresh a lot of what I first learned on the Personal Programme as they are linked. For you to write good job ads you need some juice, and taking the a good job brief is your chance to squeeze some oranges to get that juice.
Job briefings are the foundation of any successful recruitment process, yet there is a severe lack of training and awareness on how to run them effectively. This course solves the problem. You'll come away with a thorough and effective structure, plus a wealth of impactful questions to uncover key insights and benefits about the role.
I think this course is particularly valuable for newcomers into recruitment. It not only boosts confidence but also provides a comprehensive understanding of the crucial questions to ask clients when gathering new requirements. Even for senior recruiters, it's a valuable refresher. It prompts us to revisit questions we might overlook in our routine and introduces innovative approaches to extracting more information from managers.
I really enjoyed this course. It will help me take detailed briefs and sell a complex role to candidates. It also gives you great questions to uncover information a hiring manager might not freely share with you.
It's easy to fall back into bad habits and this course was exactly what I needed as a refresher, and more. If you invest time at the start of the process and nail your brief, then you will make your life easier further down the hiring process. Most recruiters do not go into this level of detail and ask these sorts of questions. And the Copy Platform document at the end is great - it gives you a template to work with in the future.
The Taking the Job Brief course was really insightful. The content is informative and is broken up into easily digestible parts. It's a nice blend of videos, text and downloads and the ‘good questions to ask’ sections were really good. There were loads that I’d never thought of asking before, so am definitely looking forward to using them.
The Taking the Job Brief course will benefit both beginners and experienced agency recruiters. It contained a number of new questions I haven't previously used.
I highly recommend this Taking the Job Brief course. There is something to learn for all levels of recruitment experience. It’s nigh on impossible to write a compelling ad or promote a role in your outreach without having taken a solid job brief.
So much of recruitment is about influencing and educating hiring managers - this really useful Taking the Job Brief course will teach you new angles to take and also affirm the stuff you already know but don't necessarily think to ask.
